In a few days after returning from Doha where she received the WISE Award for Sustainability, Akumaa Mama Zimbi has gone on a three-day working tour in the Volta Region of Ghana. She was met by the Chiefs, Queen mothers, Assembly Members and people with drumming and dancing in the selected communities she visited.
Through the Widows Alliance Network (WANE) project, she commissioned another success made by one of the widows groups under the WANE. This is the Widows Gari Processing Factory initiated by the hard working widows of Hikpo under the leadership of the Mama Zimbi Foundation (MZF). This initiative which has began producing at least two bags of Gari daily, has became a source of employment and has created an avenue to raise money to take good care of the widows and their children.
After commissioning the project, Mama Zimbi took the opportunity to visit and inaugurate the newly created widows groups in Toklokpo, Hlevi and Dabala Juntion, who are made up of 130, 62 and 70 registered widows reapectively. All these communities are in the South Tongu District in the Volta Region of Ghana. Mama Zimbi encouraged the newly formed groups to stay focused and enter into a viable projects as Hikpo widows have initiated and promised to offer every necessary training and funding that they need to make their lives meaningful.
